Mark Rothman, CPA
How would you describe your role at Rowe, Deming & Rothman? As a senior Accountant I lead and manage client engagements and direct, supervise, and train professional and administrative staff. What is important to you as you work with Rowe, Deming & Rothman clients? It is important to me that clients feel respected and empowered. I am fortunate to work with a great and diverse group of people. I respect their differences and am motivated by their accomplishment. My work provides with the opportunity to help people better understand their own situations. Knowledge gained through understanding is empowering. Helping people to attain that knowledge is incredibly rewarding. What is your education and experience related to your role at Rowe, Deming & Rothman? I received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and spend the next 18 years working in accounting, finance, telecom, and manufacturing. I came to Rowe & Deming in 2007 as a Staff Accountant and spent the next four years preparing tax planning and preparation for individuals, estates, trusts, partnerships, and corporations, researching tax strategies, and supervising Hood River staff. I became a Certified Public Accountant in 2011 and since that time have lead and managed client engagements and professional staff. The practical finance and business experience I brough with me to the firm, combined with the extensive training and hands-on experience in all aspects of tax and accounting I have acquired in my time here, has put me in a position to help the people I work with . I have worked businesses, started businesses, and managed businesses. I can really indentifiy with the concerns of business owners and managers because I have lived those same concerns. What do you enjoy doing when not working? I love to spend time with my wife and two sons. We thrive on the recreational opportunities that living in Hood River provides. If I'm not working there is a good chance that we are camping, fishing, biking, kiteboarding, or skiing. What is a quote or saying that you find personally meaningful? My grandfather often told me that "good things happen to those who make them happen." Paula Maden
How would you describe your role at Rowe & Deming? As a staff accountant, my primary role is to assist the partners with accomplishing the task at hand. This in turn includes meeting the day-to-day and long term accounting needs by preparing tax returns, bookkeeping, delivering on-site financial services, or special projects for a client. I work between the Hood River and The Dalles Offices serving clients throughout the Columbia Gorge. What is important to you as you work with Rowe & Deming clients? Most important to me is to be of service in every way I can. Meeting the client’s needs in an accurate and timely manner is important to me. Understanding the client’s needs and supporting their goals is my endeavor. What is your education and experience related to your role at Rowe & Deming? I have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting and 30 years experience in business. I have worked in full range accounting in several industries: manufacturing, distribution, service, non-profit, and construction. This exposure to different industries and accounting experiences contributes to my work at Rowe and Deming and serves our clients well. I hope to utilize the knowledge I have gained over the years in my new role, while continuing to learn along the way. What do you enjoy doing when not working? Investing in youth and at-risk youth is my passion, whether it be my own teenage sons or kids in our community. I search out avenues to serve in this manner in a variety of ways; Vacation Bible School, a local non-profit mentoring young men and YoungLife. Our sons are Boy Scouts. Their scout, youth group and sports activities keep me busy connected to the community. I enjoy reading, camping, scrapbooking and most of all, Zumba!
