Mark A. Rothman, CPA
How would you describe your role at Rowe, Deming & Rothman?
As a Senior Accountant I lead and manage client engagements and direct, supervise, and train professional and administrative staff.
What is important to you as you work with Rowe, Deming & Rothman clients?
It is important to me that clients feel respected and empowered. I am fortunate to work with a great and diverse group of people. I respect their differences and am motivated by their accomplishments. My work provides me with the opportunity to help people better understand their own situations. Knowledge gained through understanding is empowering. Helping people to attain that knowledge is incredibly rewarding.
What is your education and experience related to your role at Rowe, Deming & Rothman?
I received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and spent the next 18 years working in accounting, finance, telecom, and manufacturing. I came to Rowe & Deming in 2007 as a Staff Accountant and spent the next four years preparing tax planning and preparation for individuals, estates, trusts, partnerships, and corporations, researching tax strategies, and supervising Hood River staff. I became a Certified Public Accountant in 2011 and since that time have lead and managed client engagements and professional staff.
The practical finance and business experience I brought with me to the firm, combined with the extensive training and hands-on experience in all aspects of tax and accounting I have acquired in my time here, has put me in a great position to help the people I work with. I have worked for businesses, started businesses, and managed businesses. I can really identify with the concerns of business owners and managers because I have lived those same concerns.
What do you enjoy doing when not working?
I love to spend time with my wife and two sons. We thrive on the recreational opportunities that living in Hood River provides. If I’m not working there is a good chance that we are camping, fishing, biking, kiteboarding, or skiing.
What is a quote or saying that you find personally meaningful?
My grandfather often told me that "good things happen to those who make them happen." Truer words have seldom been spoken.
